Speaking at their provincial offices in Durban today, the party's Thanduxolo Sabelo said despite a number of reports they are happy with the performance of the ANC at the polls.

Results have shown the ANC taking 57.48% of votes in KZN, the IFP came in second with 18.39% of votes while the DA earned 15.16% of the provincial votes.

Sabelo also says they noted the disagreements and at times demonstrations against candidates leading up to the local government elections - something he says is new to the party.

"We set aside our differences and we move forward to campaign for that particular candidate. But this election saw some of our members deciding to abstain from campaigning and participating in the election.

"Worst of it all was when they decided to withdraw their vote and decided not to vote for the glorious movement. Some amongst us committed political suicide and became independent candidates," he said.

He says despite a number of reports they are happy with the performance of the ANC  at the polls.

A number of ANC councillor-candidates and other party members were killed in the province in the months before the elections.
