The KZN Transport Department's Kwanele Ncalane says all of the seven people who died - among them two teenagers - were occupants of a Toyota Yaris.
Ncalane says the recent spike in major fatal crashes on weekends is worrying.
"We need to go back to the drawing board and make sure we target specifically campaigns and operations which are targeting weekends in particular," he said.
Ncalane says they will be meeting with law enforcement agencies to strategize how to maximize the presence of traffic enforcement on weekends.
