KwaMashu illegal dumping hotspot transformed in eThekwini clean-up drive
The municipality launched National Clean-Up Month under the theme “It Starts With Me”, focusing on responsible waste management and environmental protection.
A former illegal dumping hotspot in KwaMashu, north of Durban, has been rehabilitated as part of efforts to keep communities clean.
That's according to eThekwini Municipality, which has vowed to step up its fight against illegal dumping after launching National Clean-Up Month.
The month-long campaign was launched on Tuesday at the KwaMashu Community Hall in L Section under the theme, “It Starts With Me.”
It will focus on promoting responsible waste management, environmental protection and more community involvement in keeping public spaces clean.
Throughout the month, the municipality will carry out clean-up operations, greening projects and educational programmes across the city.
Greening initiative
It says the former illegal dumping site in Section L has already been cleared and rehabilitated as part of a targeted greening initiative.
This includes the planting of trees to discourage further dumping and encourage residents to help maintain the space.
The City has urged residents and business owners to take responsibility by disposing of waste properly and to stop littering and illegal dumping.
They have also been encouraged to participate in local clean-up efforts.
