Premier Sihle Zikalala presented the fleet of six SUVs to the late King, Goodwill Zwelithini's queens in Ulundi on Friday.

He said the provincial government was fulfilling a commitment it made to the monarch who passed away in March.

But the IFP's Blessed Gwala has called the handover a publicity stunt by the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal.

"It is shameful of the premier to grandstand about this and to act as if the vehicles were a Christmas gift. The premier knows very well this handover has been long overdue.

"The vehicles should have been handover as approved even before the passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini and Queen Mantfombi however for some unknown reason the handover was kept on hold."
