IFP: Incomplete infrastructure projects in KZN costing lives
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal has called on local government to fast-track the building of bridges in rural communities.
The party believes the improved infrastructure is needed to help save lives.
The IFP been reacting to reports of drowning incidents in rivers in the province recently.
Emergency teams were on Monday searching for a 26-year-old man who drowned when he tried to cross the Umfolozi River.
Last week, a woman, who was on her way to a funeral, was swept away by the waters of uMdloti River in Ndwendwe.
The IFP's Blessed Gwala says the incident could've been avoided if the KZN government had completed the long-abandoned bridge project, worth more than R38 million.
“If the bridge had been constructed lives would have been saved, as all locals cross this river daily to access healthcare services.
"We therefore call on Honourable Mkonyeni to take responsibility for the numerous incomplete projects across the province.”
