Hunt for CIT suspect after Marianhill shootout
A manhunt is underway in Marianhill, west of Durban, after a cash-in-transit suspect escaped during a shootout with police on Saturday night.
One alleged accomplice was shot dead, and another arrested.
Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says officers approached a vehicle over concerns about suspicious behaviour.
He says the occupants opened fire on the team, setting off a gun battle.
Netshiunda says it was later discovered that one of the passengers was the victim of a hijacking and kidnapping when the vehicle was stolen in KwaMakhutha earlier:
"Police were searching for a wanted cash-in-transit suspect who was believed to be in hiding in Marianhill. He opened fire towards the police. A firearm was found."
