Updated | By Portia Cele
As SA continues to experience smelting conditions, Durban residents are being urged to take necessary precautions in protecting themselves from possible side effects.
Although Durban and areas along the coast are not among the cities that will experience a heatwave, it is set for a warm 33 to 34 degrees until Thursday.
Higher temperatures - reaching 39 degrees - are expected over the northern and western parts of the province.
Weather Service forecaster Wisani Maluleke says this will regulate towards the end of the week.
"As from Thursday, temperatures are expected to gradually start dropping with Durban being around 28 degrees. However, temperatures in the north will also decrease from 38 to 34 degrees. On Friday, we are expecting rain relief," he said.
The South African Weather Services says parts of Gauteng will see a record-breaking 39 degree celcius, with some parts reaching 40.
