Hospersa: Kubayi-Ngubane appointment must be reversed
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Health and Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to reverse the appointment of Acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane.
Kubayi-Ngubane was appointed to act in the position after Zweli Mkhize was placed on special leave last week.
Mkhize was placed on special leave due to his links with the Digital Vibes tender scandal.
Hospersa spokesperson Kevin Halama says the union is disappointed at Ramaphosa's decision to appoint Kubayi-Ngubane.
"We are disappointed by the appointment of the acting Minister who has no medical background noting the pressure of the health care system caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We call on the president to reverse the appointment."

Halama has also raised concerns about the department being embroiled in a corruption scandal and slow vaccination pace.
To date the country has only managed to administer 1 777 288 Covid-19 vaccines since the vaccination programme began in March.
Furthermore, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is probing the R150 million Digital Vibes contract, which was awarded to two of Mkhize's associates.
