Heavy traffic hits N3 as Easter travellers flood KZN routes
High traffic volumes have been recorded on the N3 as Easter travellers move through KZN, with authorities urging caution and deploying increased policing across the province.
As travellers make their way in and out of KZN, high traffic volumes have been recorded on the N3 Toll Route.
"In the last hour, approximately 1200 vehicles were travelling south [towards KZN], and around 850 vehicles travelling northbound [towards Gauteng].
Heavy traffic volumes surge
The N3 Toll Concession says it's recorded busy conditions since early Friday morning.
Spokesperson Thania Dhoogra has re-iterated her call for motorists to stay alert and anticipate hazards.
"Driving defensively, increasing your following distance, only ever overtaking when it is safe to do so, being focused on the road and obeying the speed limits can make all the difference in an emergency.
"Traffic conditions are expected to subside later this morning, but road users can stay informed of verified route traffic and weather conditions between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng by following @N3Route on X.
Increased policing and safety warnings for Easter travellers
eThekwini Municipality Mayor Cyril Xaba has warned that crime and recklessness on the roads won't be tolerated this Easter long weekend.

He joined a multi-disciplinary operation for road safety in Isipingo, south of Durban, on Thursday.
The City's projecting around 1.2 million tourists and a potential 2.6-billion-rand boost to the local economy.
eThekwini expects accommodation occupancy to reach around 62%.
Xaba says visible policing is important during this time and has cautioned those who don’t follow road rules.
He says more than a thousand police officers have been deployed across all regions.
Xaba says they'll be patrolling tourist sites, freeways, shopping malls, and religious gatherings.
“We also warn passengers who, after drinking alcohol, want to go onto the road. Please stay away until you are back to your full senses.”
