Heavy rain in northern KZN set to continue, families left displaced

Local government officials say several
families have been displaced after severe winds and heavy rains brought on
by Storm Eloise wrecked their homes.
A cold front brought on by the aftermath of Eloise hit KZN yesterday, with downpours reported in the uMkhanyakude district and parts of King Cetshwayo and Zululand districts.
Cooperative Governance spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, says a family in in eMkhonjeni in the Jozini had to be evacuated when their home became flooded.
In Abaqulusi, a house in Esilweni collapsed in the early hours of the morning, leaving two people injured.
Eskom has also reported power outages in some parts of the province after trees and poles fell on power lines.
Mzila says should there be a need for more evacuations, community halls will be made available to residents.

COGTA MEC, Sipho Hlomuka has called upon Northern KZN residents to exercise extreme caution as heavy rain continues,” Mzila said.
The South African Weather Service has indicated that inclement weather conditions are expected to continue through the day going into the evening, with severe downpour expected in uMkhanyakude.”
Disaster management teams are on the grounds to ensure that those that are affected are provided with the relevant support,” Mzila added.
