Health Dept DG suspended over Digital Vibes contract
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Health Department has placed its director-general Sandile Buthelezi on precautionary suspension.
It is in connection with his alleged role in the awarding of the multi-million rand communications contract to KwaZulu-Natal-based company, Digital Vibes.
A forensic probe has found the R150 million tender was irregular.
The department's Foster Mohale says Buthelezi's been placed on precautionary suspension until he appears before a disciplinary hearing.
"Dr Nicholas Crisp, Deputy Director-General responsible for National Health Insurance, will continue to act until the hearing process has been concluded."
Digital Vibes is believed to be run by the former personal assistant and ex-personal spokesperson of Zweli Mkhize.
Mkhize stepped down as the health minister earlier this year due to his and his son's alleged role in the scandal.
