Mthethwa told supporters at a Freedom Day event in Manguzi in northern KZN yesterday that the ANC and President Jacob Zuma are correct when focusing on the second phase of the country's transformation.

He says Freedom Day should serve as a time to reflect.

"To young people, do not be swayed by lots of noise which is not aimed at taking this country forward. You must jealously guard the freedom you attained in 1994. Some people today take for granted this freedom. It has to be preserved," he said.

Also speaking at the event, President Jacob Zuma has expressed his concern at the number of fatalities on the country's roads in recent weeks.

He says everybody needs to play their part in reducing road carnage.

"We lost more than 200 people including 20 school children in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng and 16 people in Kranskop in KZN. Their deaths have caused enormous pain. May their souls rest in peace," he said.
