Guard shot several times as CIT robbers strike again in KZN
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A guard is in serious condition in hospital after he was shot several times during an apparent cash-in-transit heist in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
It's understood the attackers opened fire and blew up a security vehicle, which was travelling on the R66, between eShowe and Gingindlovu on Wednesday night.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Samantha Meyrick says two other cash guards escaped unharmed.
"The driver was stabilised on scene by IPSS Medical Rescue and was transported in a serious condition under the care of IPSS Medical Advanced Life Support.

"Suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. The incident will be subject to further investigation."
This is the second cash van hit this week.
On Monday, a dozen cash-in-transit robbers attempted a heist in Melmoth.
However, the gang's plans fell through after security guards opened fire on the suspects - wounding some - resulting in them fleeing the scene.
