Go! Durban delays in new Germany, Pinetown

The eThekwini Transport Authority, responsible for the Go! Durban project,  says it is working to restore access and mobility to general traffic in the New Germany and Pinetown areas.

The project has faced numerous setbacks in recent months, including disruptions by taxi operators and the renewal of old infrastructure.

EThekwini's Carlos Esteves says they were able to open a section of Qashana Khuzwayo last week, but have encountered difficulties at the intersection with Regent Street, leading to power disruptions.

"In New Germany and Pinetown there's an old industrial area and those two main roads have a lot of existing services which are old. Obviously while we're in the area, to avoid those services having to be renewed in a year or two's time, we're taking the opportunity to dig up and renew those services such as water, electrical cables etc," he said.

The final phase of the more R20-billion rand new integrated rapid public transport network is expected to be completed in 2027.
