Gauteng overtakes Western Cape as COVID-19 epicentre

South Africa’s economic hub, Gauteng, has officially overtaken the Western Cape with the most coronavirus cases in the country.
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, says in his daily report that Gauteng recorded a total of 75 015 infections on Wednesday, at least two thousand more cases than the Western Cape.
The number of deaths also continue to increase, with 100 virus-related deaths confirmed in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday evening.

However, no new deaths were recorded in Gauteng.
The Western Cape recorded a further 47 deaths. The Eastern Cape recorded 18 more COVID-19 deaths, Mpumalanga recorded 15 deaths, 18 from KwaZulu-Natal and two more in Limpopo.
The total number of COVID-19 related deaths now stands at 3 602.
