The funeral service of South Africa’s Ambassador to France is underway at the Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Complex in KwaMbonambi.
Thousands have gathered to pay their respects and to celebrate Nathi Mthethwa's life and legacy.
The stadium is packed with members of the public, colleagues, politicians, and relatives, all gathered to say their final goodbye.
The earlier sadness has been replaced by songs celebrating his life and legacy.
Speakers at the service have reflected on Mthethwa’s dedication to public service, his role in uniting people, and his contributions abroad.

Among them, close friend Gloria Serobe praised his widow Philisiwe Buthelezi for suspending her career to support him, describing the two years they spent in France as “two years of bliss.”
The family spokesperson, Sifiso Buthelezi, also shared personal memories, highlighting Mthethwa’s humility, intellect, and devotion to family and country.
Once the speeches conclude, President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy, after which the SAPS will lead the procession to the Mthethwa family homestead for the ambassador’s final resting place
