Fuel price hike on the cards in June

Fuel prices look set for a sharp jump at the beginning of June with the potential for further increases in the medium term.

That's according to the Automobile Association commenting on unaudited month-end data supplied by the Central Energy Fund.


The AA says international petrol prices continued their upward march in May.


Spokesperson Layton Beard says the Rand's value against the Dollar is exposing consumers to the full force of the strengthening of oil price.


''Our prediction is that petrol is set for a rise of 52-cents a litre and diesel a rise of up to 78-cents a litre. With South Africa's weak economy, our concern is that even if oil prices moderate further declines in the rand will mask the benefit,'' he said.
