Fuel levy hike will have knock-on effect on consumers says AA
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Automobile Association says motorists should not expect things to get easier any time soon.
It says the 27 cents per litre fuel levy hike which comes into effect in April will only hurt pockets further.
The increase was announced by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni in Parliament yesterday.
The AA's Layton Beard says what's more worrying is the levy's knock-on effect.
"It's not only going to hit motorists, but it's also going to hit all consumers because invariably public transport will go up."
"All consumer goods will also go up as manufacturers and suppliers in the agricultural sector pass on any increases that they will have to input costs to consumers so we are obviously quite concerned about that increase," he adds.
He says they are disappointed that the minister did those increases rather than keeping them the way they are.
