According to the Hawks, the operation was carried out after officers received intelligence about a planned armed robbery at a business in Mofolo.
Four suspects were killed and two others arrested following a shootout with law enforcement teams in Mofolo, in Soweto, on Wednesday.
The operation involved members of the Hawks’ Tactical Operation Management Section (TOMS), Badboyz Security, and Gauteng Highway Patrol.
According to the Hawks, officers received intelligence from the Modus Operandi Centre (MDOC) about an intended armed robbery at a business in Kwezi, Mofolo.

"When the suspects realised they were being observed, they split up and fled in two vehicles. A high-speed chase ensued, followed by a shootout," said Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale.
The arrested suspects are expected to face multiple charges, including business robbery, attempted murder, and possession of illegal firearms.
Mogale has confirmed that the team is still pursuing a seventh suspect who fled on foot.
Police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could help arrest the remaining suspect.
Deadly stabbing in PMB
Meanwhile, an anti-gender-based violence group has called for a suspect who killed a pregnant woman in Pietermaritzburg to face the full might of the law.
Aleyka Shaik, who was six months pregnant with twins, was stabbed to death in Northdale on Sunday evening.
Shaik had gone to fetch her seven-year-old daughter when she got into an argument with a 39-year-old man outside his home.
Her husband, Tristan Arjuna, says he was concerned when she did not call him, prompting him to check her vehicle tracker.
Tristan rushed to Shaik only to find her stabbed in her car.
The Men Fighting Against Domestic Abuse says it stands with the family during this difficult time.
Craig Freese is from the organisation.
"There's no excuse for his action. If the family ever reaches out to us to get any form of assistance, we will gladly assist them with all our partners at our disposal.
"It'll gladly assist the little girl, including the grandparents, because the victim was the main breadwinner in her family, not only her child, but for her parents as well."
A suspect appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court this week.
