Officers say the suspects were nabbed in the Brighton Beach area, south of Durban hours after the attack on Monday night.

Two heavily armed men allegedly stormed a Park Drive home at around 7pm and when confronted by the man, opened fire on him.

SAPS spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says officers then swooped on a suspicious looking vehicle without number plates and nabbed the four occupants. One of the suspects was tackled by a police dog as he tried to escape.

Two firearms believed to have been stolen in Amanzimtoti last month as well as the Athlone Park man's cellphone were allegedly recovered from the car.

A preliminary investigation has also established that the vehicle was stolen in Durban's Sydenham area last month.

The suspects have been linked to a string of crimes in and around Durban recently.

They are due to appear in court on charges of attempted murder, possession of stolen property, the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as house robbery.

Mbhele says one of the suspects was out on bail in connection with a house robbery in Scottburgh on the south coast. He was due back in court next week.

The police's top brass has praised the task team who arrested the suspects.

The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistics testing to establish whether they've been linked to any other crimes.
