WATCH: Former apartheid-era activists join #SaveSouthAfrica march in Durban

Civil society groups have gathered at the Gugu Dlamini Park in Durban to voice their concerns over numerous issues - including state capture and what they say are attempts to take over Treasury.

The gathering comes two days after fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and two former SARS officials - Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashula were dropped.

Member of the Active Citizens Movement, Ela Gandhi, says the charges were only the tip of the iceberg.


Albertina Luthuli - daughter of late ANC president, Chief Albert Luthuli - believes there is no direction from the current leadership.


"Some months back, I actually had to take an uncomfortable journey coming from me - to ask President Zuma to step down. Now that is not what I've ever been driven to do in my whole life as a loyal cadre of the ANC," she said.

Retired KZN Judge Thumba Pillay says the "euphoria" of democracy has worn-off, and been replaced by a strong civil society movement that won't stand for corruption.
