Floods: Displaced Durban families hope for assistance
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Some of the families displaced by the weekend's flash floods in Durban are hoping the eThekwini Municipality will help them rebuild their homes.
Dozens lost their homes when heavy rains caused havoc in areas including, Isipingo, Chatsworth and Umlazi.
Five families are being housed at a community hall in Umlazi's W section.
Mother of three, Noxolo Jali is among them and describes the night she lost her home.
"While sleeping, the walls started caving in, water started flooding into the house. We don't know how we escaped. It's not a safe place at all. We are left with nothing, these children are in school, their uniforms are gone.
"We didn't manage to get anything out of there. The Councillor then brought us here at night because we have no place to sleep," she said.
