Both grades of petrol, both 93 and 95 octane, will decrease by R1,32 per litre.

Diesel is set to decrease by 88 and 91 cents per litre, while illuminating paraffin will cost R1,44 less per litre.

"A major reason for the decrease in the fuel price is the decrease in the average brent crude oil price,” says the department’s spokesperson, Robert Maake.

"This decrease is due to less demand for crude oil due to recession concerns and a resurgence of Covid-19 in China, as well as the decision by OPEC and non-OPEC members to increase oil production.

"There has also been a decrease in the average international product prices of petrol, diesel, illuminating paraffin and LPG."

The new fuel prices will kick in at midnight on Wednesday.
