Festive season storms leave KZN among worst hit by power outages
Updated | By Kubobonke Luthuli
Ongoing severe weather over the festive season has caused widespread power outages across Eskom’s network.
While major faults in other provinces have largely been resolved, the utility says KwaZulu-Natal remains one of the worst affected.
The power producer has added that flooding and damaged infrastructure are slowing repair work in some areas.
Eskom's Daphne Mokwena has urged customers to be patient saying challenging conditions have continued to impact response times.
She’s also reminded residents to treat all electrical cables as live at all times.
"While major disruptions in the Eastern Cape have largely been addressed, the KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo and Free State provinces remain severely affected. Eskom teams are on the ground repairing damaged infrastructure to restore supply in affected communities, including Tzaneen and Mashashane in Limpopo."
"These conditions are placing significant strain on response times, particularly in areas where access is restricted due to flooding, damaged infrastructure, or unsafe terrain. Despite these challenges, Eskom teams are working around the clock to restore supply safely and as quickly as possible."
