Fadiel Adams is set to line up before the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The National Coloured Congress leader arrived in Durban on Wednesday night following his arrest in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Adams facing charges linked to Magaqa murder probe

He has been accused of meddling with the investigation into the 2017 murder of former ANC youth league SG Sindiso Magaqa.

Adams is facing charges of fraud and obstruction of justice.

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says authorities decided to transport Adams from the Western Cape by road after calculating the risks and costs of flying him in.

“Even in that process, we made sure that he had regular stops,” Mathe told reporters in Westville on Wednesday night.

Speaking on his way to the Grassy Park police station on Tuesday, Adams claimed he had indicated his willingness to cooperate.

“I told Parliament that Sindiso Magaqa was killed with an AK-47 purchased with the proceeds of Crime Intelligence. The head of Crime Intelligence is Dumisani Khumalo, but I informed them of it a year ago.

“I’m about to be assaulted. I'm probably going get waterboarded. This is how it works. I'm telling you what's going to happen but let them do their worst.”

Police say Adams was taken care of

"They did not drive the whole night. We saw on social media people being concerned that he was being transported through the night saying, it's the winter season and so on. We can confirm that the team stayed over in a nearby town where he was given his eight-hour rest,” said Mathe.

“He was booked into a local police station. He was fed, he received breakfast, lunch or supper. So, he has been well taken care of."

NCC members say they will be supporting Adams in court on Thursday.
