There are renewed efforts being made in KZN in the fight against rhino poaching.
Officials from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the departments of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs - as well as the police have all teamed up to form the Rhino Crime Combating task team.
The group was launched at a media briefing in the Drakensberg this morning.
Economic Development MEC, Sihle Zikalala says rhino poaching in the province has increased - at least 170 animals have been killed since the beginning of the year.
"That task team is focusing on working with Ezemvelo in developing and implementing strategies to curb rhino pouching including establishing in the specialised court. Two staff members have already been dismissed. We are going to be focusing on ensuring that people who are working for Ezemvelo are not collaborating with the syndicates," he says.
