eThekwini working to resume refuse collection in Umlazi
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
eThekwini Municipality officials say they can't confirm at this stage when refuse collection services will resume in Umlazi.
The south of Durban area's uncollected rubbish has been piling up since last week.
The city's been meeting with independent contractors, over issues including unpaid contracts and conditions of employment.
"We'd like to apologise to all the residents of Umlazi following the disruption of waste removal. We make an undertaking that this will be resolved and the situation will go back to normal as soon as possible. We will therefore be able to communicate with the residents after we have managed to come up with solutions on the challenges we are currently experiencing," the municipality's Msawakhe Mayisela said.
Residents are being urged to keep their refuse on their properties until further notice.
