eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba says repair work on a leak along the Southern Aqueduct is continuing, with reduced water supply affecting central and southern parts of the city.
eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba has appealed for patience as repair teams continue to restore water supply in some areas, following a leak on the Southern Aqueduct.
He conducted a site inspection in Westville on Monday to assess the progress.
The repair work, which began last week, has affected the water supply to the city's central and southern regions.
Xaba says the R1.2 billion Southern Aqueduct upgrade is on track for completion by December and is expected to improve water supply for more than a million residents.
The mayor also visited Chatsworth Reservoir 4 to assess the impact of the leak on reservoir levels.
"They showed me that the level does not reach the capacity it's required to pump water to Umlazi Reservoir 2.
“Umlazi Reservoir 2 is a main reservoir that pumps water to other reservoirs as well. Both reservoirs are now supplied by one pipe.
“That means a reduced volume. There is water, but it's supplied by one pipe. It's reduced. They are currently fixing the other pipe. They've brought in an expert."
