eThekwini Municipality is considering borrowing a whopping R1-billion for key projects around the city.
The municipality says it has been given the green light by council to put in a request for the loan.
"The purpose of the loan is to fund the Go! Durban project, the Western Aqueduct project, and human settlements projects," said spokesperson, Tozi Mthethwa.
Mthethwa says they have done the necessary checks to ensure that repayments do not become a burden.

The money will also be used to address infrastructure challenges relating to water, roads, electricity and sanitation.
"There's due diligence in how the monies are employed in the municipality. We will also account to the auditor general. In that way, we will ensure that monies are utilised correctly in the municipality," Mthethwa said.
