eThekwini plans to take over bus operations
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has been handed a memorandum of grievances by the eThekwini bus drivers who staged a protest on some of the city's busiest routes on Monday morning.
The drivers parked their busses in the roadways - bringing traffic to a standstill. Kaunda says this sort of action doesn't help our already struggling economy.
The municipal bus service is run by Transnat. The drivers want to be permanently employed by the City.

Addressing them after receiving their memorandum - Kaunda told them the municipality was in the process of setting up an entity to take over the bus operation.
"These buses are for the community, owned by the municipality and not by Transnat.
"If you damage these municipal buses, you are damaging what is owned by taxpayers which means you are damaging what will benefit the community.
"We are taking and acknowledging this memorandum and it will be discussed in today's agenda."
