One of the suspects was armed with a firearm.

KZN police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says after positively identifying the engineer, the suspects fired a shot towards him.

"While he was in the office two unknown men, one armed, entered the office and shot him to the head. He died on the scene, and the motive of the killing is unknown at the moment. It is subject to investigation," she said.

Mbele says the investigation is still at an early stage and that she cannot divulge further information.

eThekwini mayoral spokesperson, Mluleki Mtungwa says they will be handing over all evidence to police regarding the murder.

"This murder comes at a time when there is a shortage of engineers in the country and in our municipality, which affects service delivery."

"So it is for that reason we call upon the police to ensure that those who are behind this crime are quickly arrested and face the full might of the law," he said.
