Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini Municipality has begun cracking the whip on outlets across the city that do not meet the food standards and licensing compliance.
Over the weekend, two restaurants at a popular Westville mall had their doors shut by inspectors.
The city's Lindiwe Khuzwayo says the establishments were fined thousands of rands.

"One was fined for having cockroaches and other unhygienic conditions, and the other was fined for operating without a business licence, not having a fire permit or hot water.
“We encourage food outlets throughout eThekwini to apply all safety standards and business licensing standards to ensure the safety of the public."
