eThekwini chair's appointment 'raises more questions'
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A political analyst is concerned about the outcome of the ANC conference this weekend where Zandile Gumede was voted chairperson of the eThekwini region.
Gumede contested the position with City Mayor James Nxumalo.
Analyst Protas Madlala says it's suspicious how the conference was hastily put together.
Madlala says he's concerned that history might be repeating itself, saying former chairman of the region Bheki Cele lost the chairmanship of eThekwini under questionable circumstances.
"You'll recall that previously results were disputed because of some wards being so-called left out.
"Poor Zandile who has been elected - she's going to lack serious legitimacy or credibility. An election raises more questions than answers," he said.
