Ethekwini budget at R49bn, focus on water and roads infrastructure improvement

eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda has tabled a special adjustment budget for the 2020/2021 financial year.
He delivered it during a full council meeting yesterday.
The total consolidated second adjustment budget including entities is R49. 4 billion.
The Municipal Finance Management Act only permits one budget adjustment a year, but the National Treasury has allowed for two because of the impact of COVID-19.

Mayoral spokesperson, Mluleki Mntungwa says the City has increased its budget to make sure service delivery is not compromised during the pandemic.
"In September we had a special adjustment to cap the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. This time around the budget adjustment will focus solely on improving our water, roads and infrastructure to alleviate the plight of the poor, especially during the pandemic."
