eThekwini greenlights election campaign advertising rules
eThekwini has approved election campaign rules, limiting posters, regulating adverts and requiring all campaign material to be removed after voting.
The build-up to the local government elections is gathering pace.
The eThekwini Municipality Council has approved the conditions for displaying campaign event adverts and election posters across the city.
It says the measures provide political parties and independent candidates with clear guidelines while ensuring public spaces are managed responsibly.
Each political party will be allowed to display a maximum of 800 posters per ward.

But they may only be put up on municipal electricity light poles.
The M4 freeway and Higginson Highway have also been opened for political adverts.
Parties can also fly banners at designated beach areas for up to three weeks before election day, while election-related wall murals must be approved by the city.
All election advertising must be removed within 30 days after the election.
The municipality says it will remove any remaining material and recover the costs from the responsible political party or candidate.
