Eskom wins case to recover R69 billion
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Eskom has welcomed a High Court victory against the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA).
The court ruled that a decision by the energy regulator to deduct a R69 billion equity injection from the utility's allowable revenue for the current three-year period, be set aside and reviewed.
Eskom's regulatory affairs manager, Hasha Tlhotlhalemaje says the decision allows Eskom to become more self-sufficient and not be as dependant on the Taxpayer.

Tlhotlhalemaje explains what this means for citizens of the country.
"It means that you as a taxpayer won't be paying for electricity, but you will be paying for it as a consumer of electricity.
"So either way there were choices and because NERSA made this decision - it was now that government that needed to provide for the equity.
"Government had to take the money away from schools, clinics and health ect. to be able to provide for the consumer of the electricity. So where are in a situation where we are still not recovering as Eskom the efficient cost of electricity," says Tlhotlhalemaj.
