Eskom: Load shedding-free winter ‘is possible’
Eskom Group Chief Executive Officer, Dan Marokane, vowed on Monday that only stage 2 load shedding will be implemented in the worst-case scenario.
For this winter, as I indicated below 13,000 megawatts of Unplanned Capability Loss Factor, we see no load shedding. As soon as we get into the range of 14,000 and above to 15,000, we may see stage one, stage two days showing up as I indicated earlier on, at worst 15,000 megawatts. Then the frequency should be within 21 days.”
Marokane briefed the media on Eskom's winter outlook in Johannesburg on Monday.

He said the power utility will be able to pull a blackout-free winter due to the return of a few units at Medupi and Kusile power stations.
" We have some big units that are coming back with Kusile Unit 6, which is the synchronised going through towards its commercial operation date, impressive performance. It has already reached its maximum send-out capacity in the last 10 days.
"Medupi is in its final stages of commissioning, and all that capacity was not there when we tackled last winter, and it will be an arsenal. An additional tool in our arsenal for this winter."
