Eskom irregular expense exemption shelved 'for now' - Godongwana
National Treasury has withdrawn the government gazette that exempts Eskom from disclosing irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.
Had it gone ahead, the power utility would have been exempted from disclosing it's expenses for three years as the country battles to get Eskom back on track.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has told a parliamentary committee on Wednesday that the auditor-general raised concerns about the exception.
Godongwana says he's also taken note of the public outcry following his decision.
"We had an intensive discussion with the AG and in that discussion, there were some comments by the AG which have got to be part of the framing of the gazette."

"In light of those comments, we decided to withdraw the gazette for now and take all these comments to account and also have a detailed consultation with the auditor-general and the auditors of Eskom so that the framing must be proper and checks and balances for corruption are tightened."
