Eskom says, contrary to reports in the local media on Monday morning,  it is not hiring any new staff.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the utility is in actual fact busy with voluntary separation packages.

“Eskom wishes to reiterate that it is not hiring any new staff. There is no recruitment drive. Instead Eskom is on an active drive to reduce overhead costs through natural attrition and voluntary separation packages offered to managerial staff.”

Mantshantsha says there is an urgent need for Eskom to reduce overhead costs.

“Eskom has on numerous occasions publicly stated the need to reduce overhead costs and to sustainably reduce expenditure. This is being done through natural attrition, and has so far been executed through two rounds of voluntary severance packages offered to managerial level staff over the past two years.”
