Eskom CEO reveals plan for December
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Eskom CEO Brian Molefe says reports that minimal load shedding experienced in the country over the past few months has not been as a result of reduced demand due to slower economic growth are not entirely true.
Molefe says to date, the country has had 99 days with only two hours and 20 minutes of load shedding.
Briefing the media at Megawatt Park in Johannesburg earlier, Molefe said the demand profile has remained relatively similar during the August to October period over the last three years.
"The recent stable supply of electricity for 99 days has resulted in an increase in manufacturing output, which rolls 0.9% year and year.
"Factory production also jumped 2.2% and was up 1.4% and we hope to continue to contribute positively to the South African economy by making electricity available," he said.
Molefe says maintenance will be stepped up over December.
"During December, you will see that we'll have more units out on planned maintenance because of the low demand. As the demand comes back, we'll somewhat scale down the amount of maintenance," he said.
