Four people have been arrested on charges of public violence in Eldorado Park on Thursday during a standoff between police and residents.
The community took to the streets to protest against the death of a 16-year boy, allegedly at the hands of police.
The teen was allegedly shot and killed by police on Wednesday night but the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.
Police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says public order police have been deployed to the area.
“At this stage, damage has been caused to the Eldorado Park police station building while two SAPS officers and one JMPD officer have been injured.
“Police are calling for calm and restraint as this matter has now been reported to the IPID for investigation.”
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has confirmed their investigations into the matter.
Spokesperson Ndileka Cola says investigators are still at the scene.
“Please note that this matter has been reported to the Ipid, our investigation team is currently on the scene, the situation is quite volatile, we are also liaising with the family of deceased person.”
Several roads have also been blocked with burning tyres and rocks.
