Education steps in after pupils demand smoke breaks

KwaZulu-Natal Education says order and calm has been restored to a south coast school where pupils have been demanding a longer break time -- so they can smoke.
Protests broke out at Roseville Secondary School in Umzinto last week.

The department met with the school's governing body this week.It says they all agreed at the meeting that they will not be negotiating with the learners.
Spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa says the pupils who led the protests have been disciplined.
"We are not going to allow such behaviour to flourish. We are not going to promote ill discipline."
