E-hailing rides to come to screeching halt soon
E-hailing operators are planning a national shutdown.
The KZN E-Hailing Council says they are joining forces with the National E-hailing Federation of South Africa to down tools.
The council's Sthembiso Khanyezi says drivers are unhappy with their working conditions, including what they are earning.
" We are complaining about the low prices that are being offered by these companies, and we are complaining about the high commission, which is at about 48% as we speak.
"If you look at the fuel prices, the fuel prices are high, but if you look at the fair price that is being offered it is extremely low."
Khanyezi says there is also a lack of transparency from the companies.

One example is customer discounts, which he says drivers only learn about at the end of trips.
" The communications that we have been sending to the companies - they are not responding. So, we felt that the arrogance being displayed by these companies calls for us to go on a national shutdown.
"We are still confirming with National E-hailing Federation of South Africa - there's about seven provinces that are affiliated to that national body.
"So we are still at a consultation stage with the provinces and regions. So once the decision is taken, then we will then shape what kind of a shutdown we want."
