DUT students stage silent protest against gender-based violence

21-one-year-old student, Noluthando Bhengu took part in a silent protest against gender-based violence at the Durban University of Technology's Ritson Campus today.

Bhengu survived a rape ordeal.She says speaking about her experience has helped her.
"I thought I was past that, only to find out that it is something within me," said Bhengu.
"I take it everywhere where I go. It is one of the reasons why I put myself into situations - if someone has been raped I feel close to them.Because I have never spoken about it."

Meanwhile, the DUT HIV/AIDS Centre says the institution has approved a policy to help students deal with gender-based violence.
