Durban's southern areas facing water and power outages

Residents in areas, south of Durban are being urged to prepare for planned electricity outages and water supply interruptions this week. eThekwini Municipality says emergency pipeline repairs and scheduled substation upgrades will affect several communities.

Residents in areas, south of Durban have been told to prepare for planned electricity outages and water supply interruptions this week.

eThekwini Municipality says emergency repairs are underway on the Wiggins High Pressure Supply Main after two sections of the pipeline burst.

Multiple areas affected

The repairs have affected supply to several reservoirs and some outlets have been temporarily closed to preserve water supply while repairs continue.

Areas including Austerville, Clairwood, Yellowwood Park, Wentworth, Mobeni and Montclair are affected.

Officials say water tankers will be dispatched to those areas.

The affected areas include Sea View, Wentworth, Woodlands, Yellowwood Park, Brighton Beach, Merewent, Treasure Beach, Ocean View, Lamont and Joe Slovo.

eThekwini urges caution during planned outage

The City says a planned electricity supply interruption is scheduled for Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM to allow the municipality to commission protection systems, as part of the Plangweni Substation upgrade.

Nqutshini Russia

Rhemia

Umbogintwini Industrial

Transnet Pipeline

The City has urged members of the public to treat all electrical installations as live during the planned power outage, as electricity may be restored without prior notice.
