They were met at City Hall by the premier's adviser, Nhlanhla Ngidi.

One of the organisers, Thandolwenkosi Mthembu told Ngidi that crimes against women and children have been horrific in the last few weeks but that those were not the only cases.

She says they have given government time frames for their demands.

Ngidi signed the memorandum and promised to follow it through.

Cases of gender-based violence, rape, murder and crimes against children have grabbed headlines across KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa as a whole in recent weeks.

Activists are demanding an end to femicide and other crimes against women and children.

They want to see government take a stronger stance against such crimes and ensure perpetrators are handed stronger sentences.
