On Monday, hundreds of angry residents from the Quarry Road West and New Germany Road informal settlements both in the vicinity of the M19 barricaded the road in protest

Political advisor in the office of the Mayor Joe Nene has confirmed he has received the memorandum of demands from the group.

He says the complaints include the provision of basic services.

''The electricity department says they have received the complaints from that area. So we are going to meet the community there so that the department will explain how far the programme is with electrifying the area,'' he said.

Some community members have also complained that when they fled their shacks in the midst of the xenophobic attacks earlier this year they came back to find them occupied by others who now claim to have bought them from unknown people.
