EThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo hopes the World Routes Development Summit which will be held in Durban over the next four days will translate into new business opportunities for the province and the country.
Nxumalo’s been speaking at the ICC at the official opening of the summit, which will see around 2 500 delegates representing 250 airlines meeting to discuss new and existing flight routes.
"The summit will have a major impact on our city. One of the key topics that will be discussed is the possibility of flying directly from King Shaka International Airport to our key source of markets, which are - New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, United States of America, Germany and others that are listed in our economic development and visitor strategy," he said.
This is the first time the summit is being held on African soil.
