Durban police officer gets suspended sentence for fatally shooting son
The incident occurred at the family's home four years ago, with the son later dying in hospital.
A Durban police officer has been handed a suspended prison sentence for killing his son.

The cop shot his 25-year-old son at their home four years ago after mistaking him for an intruder he thought was tampering with the burglar gate.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson, Lizzy Suping, says the officer was charged with murder.
“He allegedly discharged his firearm towards the direction of the alleged intruder, only to realise that it was his son, aged 25 at the time of the incident, after he heard his scream. The son was rushed to hospital for medical attention but succumbed to his wounds,” said Suping.
He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The sentence is wholly suspended for five years.
The man will be under supervision and has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
