'Devastating' nurse crisis -DENOSA slams Gov’t plan
Nursing union DENOSA has called the shortage of nurses a devastating crisis.
It follows the Health Minister's announcement on Thursday that government plans to recruit 200 nurses in public hospitals.
Aaron Motsoaledi also said one-thousand-two-hundred doctors will be hired and an additional 250 healthcare workers in other professions.
DENOSA’s spokesperson, Sonia Mabunda-Kaziboni says the figure is not only inadequate but an insult to the nursing fraternity.

"National projections estimate that South Africa could be short by over a hundred thousand nurses by 2030 if urgent interventions are not made."
"These shortages have devastating impact, such as patient care is compromised with fewer nurses caring for more patients, increasing the risk of complications and mortality," said Mabunda-Kaziboni.
